10 Evacuation Locations Alerted for Residents Affected by Inundation

The Kampung Melayu sub-district officials have prepared 10 evacuation sites for residents of the Kebon Pala settlement affected by the overflowing floods of the Ciliwung River. As of Thursday (4/5) afternoon, the inundation high in the settlements of RW 04 and 05 Kampung Melayu Urban Village is still around one meter at the deepest point.

We have also coordinated with the related agencies if an evacuation is needed

Kampung Melayu Urban Village Head, Angga Harjuno Rakasiwi said the water of the Ciliwung River had increased after flash floods from the upstream. As a result, several locations on the riverbank experienced inundation.

"Since the evening, we have warned residents of the potential arrival of water. We have also coordinated with the related agencies if an evacuation is needed," he said, Thursday (5/4).

He continued that the inundation began to hit the residents' settlements around 2 AM. The water level continued to rise until its peak reached 1.5 meters at the deepest point this morning.

To anticipate evacuations, his party prepared 10 evacuation locations, including at SDN 01 and 02 Kampung Melayu, SMPN 26, and Health Sub-agency office on Jalan Jatinegara Barat.

"To optimize it, we have coordinated with the Social Sub-agency," he expressed.

As of today, no residents have evacuated. The water level at the deepest point in the settlements of RT 14/RW 04 and 10, and RT 11/RW 05 has also started to decline, even though not too significantly.

"Hopefully, later in the day, the water will continue to recede and finish later this afternoon," he hoped.

One of residents in RW 05 Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Unus Buhari (63) admitted  he did not flee, as he was used to this condition.

"We will evacuate if the water level reaches two meters. Besides, the water has started to recede," he stated.
